Chorionicity refers to whether the twins share a placenta (monochorionic) or have separate placentas (dichorionic). It determines the level of monitoring required.
Monochorionic (identical) twins are scanned every 2 weeks starting from 16 weeks to check for TTTS, while dichorionic twins are monitored every 4 weeks.
TTTS is a serious condition in monochorionic twins where blood flows unequally between the babies through shared placental blood vessels.

Uncomplicated fraternal (dCDA) twins are usually delivered at 37–38 weeks, while identical (mCDA) twins are delivered at 36–37 weeks.
We manage and treat complications locally; for complex fetal surgeries, patients in Al Ain are referred directly to our Abu Dhabi hub with care coordinated smoothly.

Our Abu Dhabi hub is at Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital on Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street (Airport Road), a central location with dedicated on-site parking and step-free access. It is an easy drive from Khalifa City, Al Reem Island, Al Reef, Yas Island, Saadiyat and Mussafah, and roughly 60–75 minutes from Dubai via the E11 (Sheikh Zayed Road). Families travelling from Al Ain or the Western Region are seen by prior appointment so scans and consultations are completed in a single visit.
