Chorionicity refers to whether the twins share a placenta (monochorionic) or have separate placentas (dichorionic). It determines the level of monitoring required.
Monochorionic (identical) twins are scanned every 2 weeks starting from 16 weeks to check for TTTS, while dichorionic twins are monitored every 4 weeks.
TTTS is a serious condition in monochorionic twins where blood flows unequally between the babies through shared placental blood vessels.
